This is my first blog post and I plan to write regularly and principally about my birding life, with a few other snippets on other subjects from time to time. I photograph whenever I can although I’m still practicing with new Canon 7D, Swarovski scope and digiscoping. Slowly getting better but a long way to go.
I am intentionally between jobs right now and have spent a lot of time this year on the road and birding so its been a great year. I’ll get down to furthering my career when the winter sets in.
I share my time between Central Asia, UK, France, Spain and UAE and so I see a good variety of birds throughout the year. I am in Central Asia right now and migration is in full swing. To the south are mountains up to 5000m and to the north steppes and semi-desert with a number of great birding lakes.
I hope that my experiences and photos are entertaining enough to share with you over the coming weeks, months and years and I will also backtrack over previous events when the snow is deep and cold and I’m trapped indoors.
But for now, we are off to the mountains on Thursday to catch the last of the mountain species before the weather closes in. There should still be some around and as it may snow between now and then on the higher slopes and there may be interesting sightings lower down.
I’ll close my first blog with a photo of a Long-legged Buzzard with a snake for breakfast, taken in the Central Asian semi-desert.
